Slurry wall technology

The slurry wall technology is used with the development of underground space below the groundwater level for installation of antifiltration curtains at the basement of hydraulic and technical structures. This type of fencing is provided by extraction of soil under the protection of bentonite slurry. Further, the reinforcing cage is installed, and the slurry is replaced by concrete. Concrete-bentonite slurry is supplied in liquid form during soil extraction; it consists of concrete, bentonite and special additives, which control the time required for formation. Wall having thickness of 0.6 m is most applicable. It is manufactured according to continuous methodology.

The wall construction technology allows further use of slurry wall as a bearing structure and as a structure that prevents groundwater ingress to underground operating facility, as trench walls have plastic flow and withstand high head.

Its use is maximally justified in the construction of large facilities. The slurry wall is sometimes the only acceptable technology for construction of underground parking. This methodology fully solves the issues faced by the Client in the center of the city: narrow construction sites, restriction of movement, retention of buildings integrity, minimization of waste water discharge, and environmental safety.

Thus, this technology has two main application areas

  • Enclosing reinforced structure of underground buildings that functions simultaneously as a bearing structure
  • Anti-filtration measures taken in the basement of hydraulic and technical structures such as concrete and ground dams
    • Concrete and earthen dams
    • Dams of riding reservoirs at hydroelectric pumped storage power plants, nuclear power plant cooling ponds, channels
    • Septic tanks and slag collection systems of refiners, chemical and metallurgical plants

The slurry wall technology application is especially efficient to protect quarries and pits from groundwater inflow, as trench walls have plastic flow and withstand high head.
